DLMS Data Management (DLMS DM) Community of Interest (COI)

The Defense Logistics Management System (DLMS) Data Management (DLMS DM) Community of Interest (COI) was formed to provide a forum for identifying and resolving issues in Department of Defense (DoD) Logistics Supply Chain Community which focus on DLMS data management and metadata management. The DLMS DM COI is founded on the tenets of the DoD Net-Centric Data Strategy as outlined in DoD 8320.2, 09 May 2003. The strategy promotes data sharing through the use of “many-to-many” exchanges versus the traditional “point-to-point”. The objectives of the strategy are to "ensure that all data are visible, available, and usable – when needed and where needed – to accelerate decision cycles." The DLMS DM COI focuses on data quality issues, configuration management concerns, and technical issues related to the implementation of DLMS Data Elements and Information Exchanges as defined by DoD 4000.25-M (DLMS 4000.25).

The DLMS DM COI is an institutional COI that focuses on the information necessary to successfully execute the DoD Supply Chain processes. These processes span the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Military Departments, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities in the Department of Defense who represent a broad and diverse range of data owners and stewards. As the DOD Executive Agent for Logistics Data Interchange, DLA Logistics Management Standards Office is tasked with standing up and supporting the DLMS DM COI.
